We are proud to celebrate AAC Awareness Month

Our pupils enjoyed a spooktacular adventure on our Halloween AAC Trail, bringing storytelling, literacy, communication and sensory exploration together!
A special Halloween story was written especially for the event, guiding pupils on an interactive adventure through a series of spooky surprises. As the story unfolded, pupils explored different Halloween-themed stations, helping to bring the narrative to life through hands-on experiences.

Along the trail, pupils encountered spooky cobwebs, pumpkins, cats, bats and ghosts. Each stop offered opportunities to engage with the story, discover new vocabulary, anticipate what might happen next and develop early literacy skills.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) was at the heart of the experience. Using communication devices, symbols and switches, pupils were encouraged to make choices, express their preferences and interact with the story in their own way. The activities supported pupils to connect words with real-life experiences, develop their understanding of stories and communicate throughout the adventure.

By combining a specially written story with interactive sensory activities and AAC, the trail helped make literacy accessible, engaging and meaningful for all our pupils. It was a fantastic celebration of inclusive storytelling, communication and learning, with plenty of Halloween magic along the way! 🎃👻

The Halloween celebrations continued on Wednesday 21 October, with a Halloween disco giving pupils another opportunity to enjoy the festivities together!
