Phoenix Project

Last week, nine of our post-16 pupils took part in the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service Phoenix Project, a fantastic five-day programme designed to invest in young people, develop their fire safety skills and build confidence, self-esteem and teamwork.

Throughout the week, Millie, Mia, Ella, Cian Roberts, Cian Jones, Harvey, Bradley, Siobhan and Danielle rose to every challenge put in front of them. They took part in a range of exciting and demanding fire service activities, including hose-running drills, tackling real fires, climbing ladders to rescue the fire station mascot and carrying out search and rescue exercises in smoke-filled buildings.
The pupils certainly discovered that being a firefighter is hard work! They battled through the heat, climbed ladders, tackled real fires and spent the week working in heavy, very smelly fire kit, leaving them absolutely shattered but incredibly proud of what they had achieved!
All nine pupils successfully gained an Agored Cymru Level 1 qualification in the Principles and Practices of Fire Fighting, a fantastic achievement and something they should all be extremely proud of.
The week finished with a special passing-out ceremony, where parents were invited to watch the pupils demonstrate the skills they had developed throughout the programme. The pupils then received their well-earned awards from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
A huge thank you to Tom, Jasmyn and Marley from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who supported and encouraged our pupils throughout the week, and to our teaching assistants Amy, Ben and Emily for their fantastic support.
Most importantly, a massive well done to Millie, Mia, Ella C, Cian Roberts, Cian Jones, Harvey, Bradley, Siobhan and Danielle. You were all amazing! You challenged yourselves, supported one another, worked incredibly hard and showed just how much you can achieve. We are incredibly proud of you all! 👏🔥🚒
