Conwy Thunder’s Wheelchair Basket Ball

Conwy Thunder’s wheelchair basket ball is designed to give youngsters, or adults new to  the sport, a taster of a fast paced team sport.  You do not need to be a wheelchair user to  place the sport and the club provide sports  chairs and all of the support needed to take  part with the club offering both participation  and performance opportunities.

Training

Training takes place at Creuddyn Leisure Centre in Penrhyn Bay on a weekly basis on Thursday evenings between 6:30pm – 9:30pm. There are two sessions that allow players of all ages and abilities to enjoy, play and challenge themselves at the right level whether they are a complete beginner or an experienced National League player. Details of both sessions are listed below:  

Development Session: 6:30pm – 7:30pm The Development session is a fun and exciting session which focuses on getting used to using a sports wheelchair and gives an enjoyable introduction to wheelchair basketball. The session has both junior and senior players who are new to the sport and allows them to play different fun games whilst developing their fundamental abilities in a safe environment.  Squad Session: 7:30pm – 9:30pm The squad session allows players to challenge and enjoy themselves whilst learning the skills and tactical elements of wheelchair basketball. A session which focuses on technical development which allows players and Conwy Thunder’s match squad to compete within different matches including; the North Wales Wheelchair Basketball League, Under 19s National Junior League, National Development and League structures and the Welsh Wheelchair Basketball set up.  New players are urged to come and try this exciting sport where the club will provide sports wheelchairs and give any advice and guidance if necessary. Although new players are welcome to turn up unannounced we do recommend that you make contact with the club prior to attending your first session, mainly to confirm the session is going ahead.
