Independent Living Skills

There are many different areas where life skills are important. While it is essential to focus on skills like safety and hygiene, there are many other parts of daily living that require skills and experience. The Living Skills curriculum provides an assessment tool as well as skills tracking system.

The skills are divided into three sections:-
  • Basic Living Skills - these can include communication, dressing, toileting, grooming, bathing, health and safety and first aid
  • Home Skills - these can include preparing simple meals, washing dishes, laundry and household chores such as using the vacuum cleaner
  • Community Participation Skills - these can include mobility and knowledge of the community, shopping, eating in public, using money and being aware of time and social behaviour
