Extra-Curricular Activities
At Ysgol Y Gogarth we are fortunate to be able to offer our pupils a whole host of high quality opportunities outside of the curriculum. We feel strongly that these experiences, which are an important and exciting feature of school life, contribute enormously to our pupils’ social and academic development. By offering such a wide range of opportunities we believe that every single pupil at Ysgol Y Gogarth will experience success in their own individual way.
This extensive range of opportunities includes a range of physical activities, such as our swimming programme, offering sessions in our hydrotherapy pool on site and at our local swimming pool in Llandudno leisure centre. We also provide opportunities to learn and practice cycling on site, and by using our amazing adapted bikes this becomes a totally inclusive activity. Our senior pupils are given the opportunity to undertake gym inductions allowing them to make regular use of our on-site gym.
We offer an extensive outdoor education programme and through partnership work, look to provide as many outdoor and adventure activities to our pupils as possible. This can be seen as often as daily with The Daily Mile initiative running at school. This sees our pupils given the opportunity to walk, run or wheel one mile on site every day, making Ysgol Y Gogarth a much healthier and happier place!
Our partnership work has also allowed us a build a creative schools programme which offers all of our pupils a range of creativity sessions including a combination of art, music and physical movement. We also deliver inclusive rugby sessions to our pupils via our WRU Rugby HUB Officer, Mr Dafydd Williams. He brings with him to school a wealth of knowledge and experience of Welsh rugby and is able to share his skills with our pupils by delivering excellent coaching sessions. Dafydd offers us a unique link to the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and as a current Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) player he looks to develop links between RGC and Ysgol Y Gogarth.
