Prime Minister Prime Minister Theresa May hosted a reception to celebrate St David’s Day in Downing Street last week where she welcomed guests from the worlds of business, media, tourism, sport and the charity sector. Our very own Chair of Governors, Mr Dave Rowley received an invitation to attend this reception and proudly stands next to Conwy Town Councillor Vicky McDonald by the 'Number 10' door in the photo below. A number of companies showcased their products at the event including Welsh whisky, beer and wine as well as cheese from Snowdonia and Welsh cakes. Afasic Cymru The National Assembly’s Children, Young People and Education Committee are looking at the Welsh Government’s proposal for a new law: the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Bill. The proposed new law will replace the current term ‘Special Educational Needs’ (SEN) with ‘Additional Learning Needs’ (ALN); do away with statements and instead give every learner with ALN the same type of Individual Development Plan; require local government and health bodies to work more closely together; and improve the information and advice on offer to families. Patrick Roberts 14.02.17 Dear Parents/Guardians, Mr Patrick Roberts, our Deputy Headteacher, is retiring having worked at both Ysgol Y Gogarth and previously Ysgol Y Graig for more than 30 years. Mr Roberts’ experience and leadership during this time has been an important part of the development of both schools. Many of you will have benefitted from the warm welcome and the empathy he shows to parents and pupils when they have a need to discuss concerns or difficult issues. He has met and accompanied countless anxious parents around the school on that important first visit; his relaxed manner and sense of humour, balanced with a wealth of knowledge have helped reassure many parents in making a difficult decision a little easier. Ygsol y Gogarth Ranger Unit Ysgol y Gogarth Ranger Unit (Senior Section of the Girl Guides) meet at the school on alternate Monday and Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 8.45pm. Any young woman who is 14 years or older and a pupil at the school may join us, providing the parent or guardian can arrange transport to and from the meetings. Pete Hughes Memorial Karate Championships 2016 Some pupils who practise in the Ysgol y Gogarth Karate Club (every Wednesday after school) recently took part in the ‘Pete Hughes Memorial Championships’. They were very successful as a Club (Gogarth Samurai) and the 3 competitors all came home with trophies. The comments by the judges were that all performances were of a very high standard and we were invited to do our next grading in Caernarfon under Kawasoe Sensei. Read more

Zoolab Zoolab visited us this week to introduce us to a variety of animals. Zoolab have become annual visitors to our school and offer exciting opportunities for everyone to get close to many unusual creatures. As always, our pupils had a fantastic time and were also able to make full use of our new outdoor classroom for the experience. Read more
